Steve Pearce (events coordinator)

My passion for motorcycling started when I was a young lad, I rode my push bike pretty much off road all the time as if I was riding a motorcycle, trials riding over large logs, scrambling through woods and fields and last but not least trying to jump something big. I will always remember when I tried to jump through a thin piece of plywood, yeah I know it was supposed to break as I hit it but it didn’t, over the handle bars I went!!! oh they were the days.

I had pictures of bikes all over my bedroom wall (oh and a full size picture of Samantha Fox) I loved the Honda Red Rocket, Yamaha DT 175 and the Honda XL 250. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be; no way would my mother let me have a bike.

Eventually at the age of twenty nine, I started riding on the road. My first bike was a NSR 125 and I was soon onto a Kawasaki GPX 600, Crikey that sudden increase in power really does go to your head. I look back and realise how vulnerable I was then, and during that time I did have two near misses.

I changed bikes again, Yamaha TRX 850 loved that bike but couldn’t ride it properly and then the penny dropped. I wanted to improve my riding and feel more confident and enjoy it more. So I changed the TRX for a new Bandit 600, now this bike I did learn to ride properly.

I have done several training courses but the skill for life package with the IAM really has made a big difference to my motorcycle riding. I have met so many types of riders with such a wide range of experience.

I passed the advanced motorcycle test and then carried on with further training to become a qualified observer. I have learned over the years it doesn’t matter what hobby or sport you take on it requires time, commitment and determination to succeed and in most cases you cannot do it alone.

I recently joined the CWAM committee as an events coordinator with Ian Stringer, I have a particular interest in the work that the IAM Regional Manager John Lickley has done with organising the Rider Skills Days. I have witnessed the excitement and satisfaction members get from them.

Similarly I hope that Ian and I will succeed in creating opportunities and enjoyment for CWAM members with our organised events.
