In 2009 Ian Edgar
started the Sunday Social Rides
as an option for full members who are not
participating in any training activity on Check Ride Sundays.
Ian Edgar writes-
The idea is that a
group of like-minded bikers can ride together to both enjoy the run and
also learn from each other and practice group riding. In addition,
it gives us a reason to get up on a cold Sunday morning and those
Observers who are without an associate can join us so their early
morning sacrifice will not be wasted!
The SS Ride will
leave Jaguar Social Club at 10.15am. To avoid confusion with
training activities, full members joining the SS Ride should arrive at
Jaguar Social Club between 9.45am - 10.00am and congregate in the lounge
below the raised area at the front.
These rides will be
organised under proper IAM guidelines. However, these are not
onerous, so if you have a favourite local run that you can lead please
let me know. I do not want to formalise the arrangement too much
as the important point is we will all have the option of a ride of some
sort on Check Ride days, so just turn up. I will lead the first
ride but then it's important that others take their turn on each Check
Ride day and people turn up knowing there will be a ride-out - I would
expect full members to be able to organise themselves! I envisage
different people doing this, dependent on who's there, and number of
people. If only two turn up, you can brief each other!
As the prospect of leaving
the cosy cocoon of a warm duvet is just too much for some of our less
intrepid biker friends, will members interested in joining me ring
before the relevant Sunday morning on 07774 162159 so that I don't
find myself, Ian-no-mates outside the Jaguar Club at 10am. Check
the Events Calendar
for dates.
