Whether a full or associate
member, if you want to hit the road with
CWAM but can't spare a whole day, the Short Ride Out is for you. Unless otherwise stated, evening
runs are approximately 60 to 80 miles long and last between 2 and 2½
hours. As the
evenings draw in, a programme of slightly longer half day Sunday rides is
available. Not only do they offer associates an opportunity to improve their
confidence but may also be treated as an observed ride if requested before the
ride commences. As with all CWAM group activities, they are above all, an occasion
for socialising with
other members and enjoying yourself. |

Format of run
Riders need to arrive promptly for the meeting time so numbers and
formation requirements can be gauged. A briefing will take place 15
minutes after the meet time and the ride will start promptly at the
start time. This is especially important for the evening rides where the
intention is to finish before dark. The use of main roads will be
limited, with the majority of the ride being on interconnecting ‘A’
and ‘B’ roads.
The evening rides will finish at a pub near to the
start point where coffee, soft drinks and the more traditional pub
beverages are available. The Sunday rides will generally have a
half way stop of 30 - 60 minutes depending on the location and
the wishes of the group on the day. Rides will generally end at a suitable cafe or
pub where refreshment can be taken before riding home.
e.g. The Fish Hill evening run stopped
at the Fish Hill car park for a 10 minute breather then finished at
about 21:15 at the Buck & Bell where most of the riders enjoyed a
chinwag and a pint. The half day Rutland Loop ride covered about 126 miles and stopped at
Rutland Water for 40 minutes then finished around 14:30 at the Long Itch
Diner where those who didn't have to rush home, enjoyed a
coffee.
If in doubt please contact the
leader/organiser (see below).
Rider preparation
Riders need to arrive for the meeting time with a full tank of petrol.
Because of the limited length of the runs a petrol stop has not been
planned into the route. If a rider has a particularly small petrol tank
and is concerned about the mileage they should brief the run leader and
a stop will be made. Full facilities at the break point cannot be
guaranteed for the evening runs.
