We are proposing to run an inaugural Region 3 competition on 1st. Oct 2011 at Sutton Coldfield fire station – competition will be based around the disciplines associated with Advanced Motorcycling as detailed below.
At this stage we are favouring a format where each group enters a team of 2 Riders for each discipline – 1 Full Member and 1 Associate – anyone who has become a full member within 3 months of the competition will be deemed to be an Associate. Precise format will be finalised once we have response from clubs.
Observed Ride – On-road covering dual carriageway, A and B roads – about 20 miles duration – marking system allows 100 points maximum score – I will attempt to arrange IAM examiners to conduct the Observed Rides – failing this we will look for Senior Observers from attending clubs
Slow machine control – Slow speed manoeuvrability test around a tight course – 1 practice plus 2 proper attempts – best score to count – start with 100 points, lose 5 points for every foot dab or cone touched
RoadCraft and Highway Code test – 25 questions on each topic – 2 points awarded for each correct answer
Machine Faults – we ‘adapt’ a machine with 10 faults – ten minutes time limit – 10 points awarded for each identified fault
Venue –  Sutton Coldfield
Eligibility  - Open to any IAM club so if a Region 3 club has close ties to IAM clubs in other Regions they can pass this invite on but we will give preference to Region 3 – logistically, there will be an upper limit of 24 contestants – it may be possible for some clubs to enter more than one 8-person team
Prizes –                Trophy awarded to the winning club team – determined by points totalled combined for the 2 entrants – trophy will be sponsored
Prizes for first, second and third in each discipline – funded by an entrance fee – assuming maximum of 12 clubs entrance fee will be £50
