Dakar Rally 2010  

For those of you who remember Mick Extance telling us of his trials and tribulations whilst competing in the Dakar Rally, there are some stunning shots in the Telegraph Gallery. .........I met Tina Meier yesterday and she told me her adventure in stage 3 La Rioja – Fiambala. This was the first real difficult stage of the race. Lots of dunes and sand and fesh-fesh. Tina struggeled and her bike gave up at a certain point. Coincidence wants that she was only 2 Km distant from the arrival, so she managed to get a ride on a horse to the bivouac, thanks to a local „angel“ who helped her. She asked officialy if she could return to the motorbike in company of her machanic. They said yes…. as long as he does not touch the bike. So imagine this scene… here they come on a horse, Tina and her mechanic 2Km from the finish. The mechanic gave Tina instructions on how to fix the bike, and finally she did it, changed the bike for the horse and made it to the finish of the special…
