The prime motivation of the
Coventry & Warwick Advanced Motorcycle Group is to provide one-to-one guidance for
riders in preparation for the IAM's Advanced Motorcycle Test and the pursuit of
safe biking. The group, a registered charity
(No.1056844), was formed in 1994 and is affiliated to the Institute of Advanced Motorists
which is also a
registered charity (No.249002). CWAM is
just one of more than 200 IAM groups nationally, although only around 80 cater for motorcyclists.
The popularity of the group has grown over the years and it now boasts in excess
of a hundred members.
CWAM is organised and administrated by dedicated volunteers who form the
Committee
and run the group for the benefit of all the members. They work hard to
provide a stimulating and varied social programme, you
don't have to join in, but if you don't, you're missing out on an integral
part of what the Group has to offer. All
our events are aimed
at enjoying and expanding the biking experience and they're all in the Diary.
Over the
years CWAM has become involved with many local events :
-
The Coventry Run (formerly The Shakespeare Run) for
historic vehicles, where CWAM provides mobile marshals.
-
CWAM shares the staffing
of the IAM stand at the
International Bike and Scooter Show at the NEC.
-
CWAM supports the Warwickshire Police
Bikesafe Campaign, by
providing observers who carry out assessed rides with members of the public.
-
CWAM participates in the Warwickshire County Council Bikers
Forum to advance road safety objectives and generally promote the use of
PTWs (powered two wheelers).
