At the start of the meeting Tony Williamson presented Steve Coombes with his advanced test certificate. This was followed by an appeal for Coventry Run volunteers, click here for details. Jim Sampson, who has now permanently taken over from the invisible Neil Colledge as CWAM Roadcraft guru, gave a graphically illustrated talk on the Riding Plan. By considering the possible cause of a particularly perplexing accident, he explained why analysis of what can be seen, what isn't seen but what can reasonably be expected on the road ahead, is so vital. It was an instructive and sobering session, (fortunately my wife was tucked up safely at home). Michael Niblett gave an attentive audience an insight into the trials and tribulations of racing. His low key delivery and studied indifference of some seemingly serious injuries and accidents belied the demands and commitment obviously required to become a serious contender. When he rolled off his detailed description of the NW200 circuit you could see him picturing every feature of the course in his mind. Such effortlessness can only be the result of intense dedication, preparation and time spent on the acquisition of knowledge, the unglamorous side we all tend to forget in the moments of excitement on the track. Tony Williamson presented Michael with a 'Skills for Life' package which although redundant at Black Bridge may serve him well on the Arrow road. We look forward to seeing him on Sunday mornings. Michael kindly drew the WNAA raffle which produced £75 for CWAM's favoured charity. Paul Owen won the Donington Park British Superbike tickets, Ian Stringer went home wearing the Ducati paddock jacket (bright red really suits him) and Mike McLaren collected the signed cap. The evening finished with most of us admiring and possibly lusting after Michael's bike and definitely resolving to give all Caterham Super Sevens a wide berth. The BBC clips of the NW200 Simon mentioned can be seen at http://www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland/nw200/ |
