Slow Riding at Binley Sept 5th

There can be few buildings in Coventry whose architectural delights equal those of Binley Fire Station and it was in it’s functional shadow that CWAM met to practise slow riding. Aided and abetted by Ron Thorley and Steve Pearce, Ian Christopher, wearing his IAM high-vis 'Cloak of Invincibility' that renders helmet, gloves and armoured jacket unnecessary, organised the event and demonstrated the various tasks with panache and flare. During the morning the eleven eager CWAMs progressed and by the end, although some were wobbling better than others, there was a definite overall improvement in the level of confidence and ability. The occasion was enhanced by lavish refreshments laid on in the fire station which included hot, buttered toast.

It is a mistake for would-be participants to view such events as exercises in ritual humiliation and infinite frustration. They are in fact great opportunities to practise and improve in a friendly, relaxed and safe environment. Whether you're an old stager or a newcomer, if you haven't been on one of Ian's half day courses, it's well worth a few hours of your time to learn how to handle your bike at walking pace. Although hot buttered toast cannot be guaranteed, you will probably be offered a cup of tea to keep you going. Keep an eye on next year's Events Diary.
